Frequently Asked Questions
How do I calculate 15% VAT on a price?
Multiply the price excluding VAT by 0.15 to get the VAT, or by 1.15 for the VAT-inclusive price. To remove VAT from an inclusive price, divide by 1.15.
What is the VAT registration threshold in 2026?
Compulsory registration applies above R2.3 million of taxable supplies in any consecutive 12 months (from 1 April 2026). Voluntary registration is possible above R120,000.
Is the VAT rate still 15%?
Yes. The standard VAT rate in South Africa is 15%. Some supplies are zero-rated or exempt under the Value-Added Tax Act 89 of 1991.
